We all meet at the beautiful Bella Rosina hotel that is very close to the Turin Caselle Airport. Our hotel is nestled in the "La Mandria" park and is a great place to relax and get ready for our adventure. We will have our mechanic ready to help prepare your bike.
Hotel: Relais Bella Rosina |
Departure: Locana
Arrival: Locana Distance: 84 km / 52 mi Elevation gain: 3200 m / 10700 ft Hotel: Relais Bella Rosina We have a short van transfer to Locana where we start the out-and-back ride up the the Colle del Nivolet. (2,641 m - 8,665 ft). The ride takes us up the Orco Valley and into the Gran Paradiso National Park (the name give you an idea of the beauty of the place...). This pass is not very well known, as the Giro has never used it (since it has only one access road), but it's a pearl that we want to share with you.

Departure: Venaria
Arrival: Pragelato Distance: 99 km / 61 mi Elevation gain: 2400 m / 8100 ft Hotel: Club Med Pragelato We leave "La Mandria" park and ride along the Val di Susa, which is known for its many castles and abbeys. The first part of the ride is a relatively easy warm-up for the main climb of the day, the Colle delle Finestre. The climb of the Finestre is one of the historic Giro passes with the last few km's on gravel and is considered one of the hardest climbs in Europe: 18.6 km in length with an average 9.1% grade!!

Departure: Pragelato
Arrival: Molines-en-Queyras Distance: 83 km / 51 mi Elevation gain: 2700 m / 8600 ft Hotel: Les Chalets Du Queyras On this stage we cross over into France. The route takes us over the Sestriere and Montgenèvre passes before descending into Briancon. As soon as we leave Briancon we start the main climb on the day; the iconic Col d'Izoard with its "lunar" landscapes. The descent takes us into the Queyras Natural Park.

Departure: Molines-en-Queyras
Arrival: Caraglio Distance: 113 km / 70 mi Elevation gain: 2600 m / 8400 ft Hotel: Tenuta il Palazzasso Stage 4 takes us over the "Cima Coppi" of our Alps to Med tour; the Colle dell'Agnello (the highest paved pass in the Alps). We descend into the Valle Varaita and then turn right to start the second climb of the day, the Colle Sampeyre. The Sampeyre is a steady climb, but it never eases off; you will be glad to start the long descent that takes us to Caraglio and our historic hotel.
|
Departure: Caraglio
Arrival: Limone Piemonte Distance: 107 km / 67 mi Elevation gain: 2990 m / 9500 ft Hotel: Fiocco di Neve Stage 5's big climb is definitely big: the Colle della Fauniera, or to use it’s other name - the Colle dei Morti. At 2481m, this is a tough climb of 24km through stunning scenery. Before reaching our final destination, we will climb the Madonna del Colette, which is short but tough!

Departure: Limone Piemonte
Arrival: San Lorenzo al Mare Distance: 123 km / 76 mi Elevation gain: 1800 m / 5800 ft Hotel: Riviera dei Fiori We call our tours adventures for a reason!! Stage 6 crosses the Colle Tenda, as we do a quick incursion into France. Crossing the Colle Tenda will be an adventure!! It has 48 very tight switchbacks, the first of which are on gravel roads.
We will finally reach the Ligurian coast and get on a beautiful bike path (an ex-railway) that will take us all the way to our hotel in San Lorenzo al Mare, but not before we climb the famous Poggio (hint: the last climb of the Milano-Sanremo spring classic). |
