We meet at Cison di Valmarino at the beautiful Castelbrando Castle. Our mechanic will be at your disposal to help you get your bike ready. Prior to dinner we will have the first tour briefing.
If you want to relax for a couple of days prior to the start, this a wonderful location with awesome riding and great prosecco. Valdobiadene, home of the prosecco, is just a few kilometres away. Hotel: Castelbrando |
Stage 14: We hook up with the Giro with an important Time Trial entirely in the territory of the Prosecco Superiore, now a Unesco World Heritage Site. The route is all ups and downs and includes the challenging Muro di Ca 'del Poggio with inclines up to 19%.
Scatto Ride: We include a short "warm up" ride and then the whole TT course. We can compare your times with the pro's later .-). Time Trials are a great way to see all the riders one by one. We will get to see them warm up and do their last minute adjustments to their amazing Time Trial bikes! Needless to say, we will also do a bit of Prosecco tasting ourselves!! |
Stage 15: This mountain stage starts nice and easy with an initial flat 40 km, starting at the Air Base of the Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team. Then, a nearly uninterrupted succession of climbs and descents leads all the way to the foot of the final ascent of Piancavallo. The steepest gradients are found at the first 6 km, with peaks of 14%, the climb remains challenging up to the final kilometre.
Scatto Ride: Our ride will include the last two main climbs and the finish in Piancavallo . We will ride past all the fans getting ready for the arrival of the pro-riders on the last climb. After viewing the finish we will ride back down to our Scatto vans. Distance: 77 km / 48 mi Elevation gain: 2600 m / 8500 ft Hotel: Relais Picadron |
The pro racers will have a day off today, but not us!! We could not miss out on the chance to ride what is probably the hardest climb in Europe: the Zoncolan. The sign at the beginning of the climb says "The entrance to Hell". The climb is not very long (10 km) but has an average gradient of nearly 12 % and of 22%. Once David Millar claimed his Garmin autostopped while riding up the Zoncolan!
Distance: 89 km / 55 mi
Elevation gain: 2100 m / 6900 ft Hotel: Relais Picadron |
Stage 16: The stage route unfolds for two thirds across the Julian Prealps, and then enters the valley of the Tagliamento river. The riders will climb up the Madonnina del Domm (very popular among local amateurs) and up the northern slope of the Castelmonte Abbey hill (Monte Spig). After passing through Monteaperta and reaching San Daniele, the peloton will cover two laps of a technical circuit, taking in steep ramps leading to the castle of Susans (15%) and to Monte Ragogna (16%). Past the final kilometre, the route homes in on a constant incline.
Scatto Ride: Our ride will take us over Monteaperta, through the finishing circuit of Monte Ragona and back to San Daniele. This stage give us many race viewing options: on the final circuit, the finish and a surprise front row viewing for a lucky guest (this option we will keep secret for the moment...). We will be staying in San Daniele.....ever heard of the prosciutto di San Daniele??
|
Stage 17: An unrelenting mountain stage with over 5,000 m vertical altitude gain in just a few major climbs, linked without pause for breath. The riders will climb up Forcella Valbona (a first-ever pass) and up Monte Bondone, coming from Aldeno (another first), with gradients over 10% in the second part of the ascent. After clearing the Passo Durone, the peloton will eventually tackle the closing climb to Madonna di Campiglio.
Scatto Ride: We start our ride in Piovene Rocchette and tackle the two brand- new climbs (Forcella Valbona and Monte Bondone) and see the riders come through before enjoying our descent into Trento. |
Stage 18: A colossal Alpine stage with 5,400 m vertical altitude gain in as little as four climbs. The route starts uphill on Passo Campo Carlo Magno, takes a first-ever pass on the recently-opened Passo Castrin/Hofmandjoch and enters the Val d'Ultimo for the first time. After leaving the Vinschgau Valley, the route tackles the Stelvio from the hardest side and, immediately afterwards, takes in the final climb leading to the Laghi di Cancano with 21 hairpins along the mountainside (the so-called “scale di Fraele”).
Scatto Ride: We start our ride a few kms before Prato allo Stelvio to warm up before the 46 switch backs of the Stelvio. We will wait for the riders to pass the Cima Coppi (the name given to the highest pass of the Giro), which will certainly leave a decisive impact on the overall standings. |
